For the Youth out of School, the Government of Kenya has established various Funds and established policies to ensure that youth improve their livelihoods. Unfortunately, whereas youth in Urban and Peri-urban areas have accessed these funds to set up successful enterprises, there still remains a challenge in the rural areas where poverty, food insecurity and lack of skills remain pronounced. The Youth Enterprise Development Fund in its 2012 report, has identified this predicament as one that needs urgent attention and action.
4-H believes that Youth in Rural areas where Food insecurity is pronounced can provide the solution for their communities. In these areas, challenging as it may sound, Agribusiness remains the solution for Youth unemployment.
At 4-H we train and link the Youth to Markets through 4-H’s facilitation within the ASDSP value-chain framework on its three priority value chains in line with the President’s Big Four Agenda. In increasing the skills of the youth in Agro-processing,
Youth will be adequately equipped to take advantage of additional funds provided by the government and other development partners to run successful agribusinesses or to gain meaningful employment.
